Do I have to pay a monthly fee to domain server?

I want to purchase a domain name and point it to my Wix website. I will already have to pay Wix the monthly fee for hosting my website, however will I also have to pay a monthly fee to the domain server - (the site on which I purchased the name)? If so, can I avoid this by connecting domain via DNS?
