Why do most Protestants disagree with the Catholic teaching that birth control is a sin?

I honestly believe it is because they are not looking to scripture for an example to follow. Read the fate of Onan (Genesis 38) and it becomes clear that the responsibility for life is at the time of conception. That is the only honest or logical conclusion possible. I am not a Roman Catholic but the bible reads as true in my bible as it does in yours
