How do I create a free webpage without going thru a company?

I recently used the website wix.com and I made a great webpage for my guy It was pretty easy with their templates but we have a very long name and have to use wix in the url unless we pay, I was wondering how do I go about doing that my self. I got alot of compliments from the site and the way I set it up, I was thinking of doing it as a side business. any suggestions?
